End of Month Post - February + March 2020

Posted by Blokfort - April 1st, 2020

I Ended up having to skip February because I just had nothing to say. I didn't have all that much art to show for it either. I'm having a really hard time coming up with words to express how much of a "nothing" February was, so let's move onto March instead.

[Daily Drawings - New Sketch Brush] - Once again, I tried to do some sort of a daily drawing type thing. Using characters from my own pool, throwing them in a picking randomizer, and then draw it, only this time giving them some flat colors as well. I got bored of that very quickly. All it felt like in the end was me padding out content without much quality or reason to it. The only real benefit from it was near the end, when I modified, once again* my core set of sketch brushes. Once again, I shall say "This is the best sketch brush to date, because I feel like I have even more control over what I'm drawing," only this time I feel like it helps me curb my bad habit of "CARVING IN THE LINES."

[Content Organization] - Organizing my content is pretty easy now. I've got everything under a system of Year > Month > Type of drawing. So let's say I draw a sketch line-art, flat colored drawing today; it would go into the "2020" folder, "March," "Sketches," then finally divvy up the different types that get saved, like timelapses, psd files and so on. Really streamlined the process. I've updated on Patreon and Subscribestar that I'll be uploading shorter timelapses for art that only goes as far as flat coloring, since long videos are a hassle to cut and upload within the limits of uploading on either site.

[Content in General] - There have been A LOT of sketch flat drawing made throughout February and March. To the point where I'm actually tired of it! So from now on, I'm actually going to 'up the level of quality' for Weekly Voted pieces to have at least some form of a background, other than basic foggy color, and some form of cel-shading. I think it's about time I got into shading stuff anyhow. As it is, I generally can get the weekly voted piece done in about a day or two, with a lot of time to spare for other things. And on an unrelated note, I think I'll try to make more art for the characters I have that do not already have art that I feel like is "good enough," if that makes sense. I have yet to draw a few characters I have in the "current quality level" I could give them, and I feel like this is a wrong that needs right-ing! But I'm only going to do these one-off fun sketches in downtime. As it it, my priorities in drawing are as follows:

  1. Commissions
  2. Weekly Vote
  3. Comic Stuff
  4. Whatever

[Art Critique Me!] - I recently asked a few people what they thought about my art, what they liked or disliked, etc. I'd like to extend that question here, I'd love to hear what your thoughts are. Here are some question to help along with that:
What do you like or dislike about my art? Are there things that make you uncomfortable? What do you think I could improve on the most? Or, Is there a particular bit of content you'd like to see more of?

Oh yeah final note, I'm not using Tumblr anymore.
